Free Dragon Fruit Crochet Pattern

This dragon fruit crochet pattern joins my collection of amigurumi fruits that are fun creations to crochet for the kiddos or are great additions for selling at markets since they’re quick to make.

Now, if you’re anything like me, I did not grow up eating this delectable fruit. In which case, you’re probably wondering why I decided to design a crochet pattern for one. The answer is probably a bit more mundane than you had hoped. Long story short, I’ve started working my way down the alphabet of fruits, and the letter ‘D’ brought me to a Dragon Fruit. I was however extremely excited for the challenge of creating this exciting shape with crochet.

If (unlike me) you did grow up with this delicious fruit on your doorstep - I hope this crocheted version does the real fruit justice!

Simply keep scrolling on this page to get everything you need to crochet this dragon fruit for yourself, or you can also purchase the ad-free PDF crochet pattern in my Etsy or Ravelry stores.

Delicious Dragon Fruit Amigurumi Pattern Information

Materials you need

Here are the materials you’ll need to crochet this free dragon fruit crochet pattern:

  • Yarn: Aran / Worsted Weight Yarn in the following colours:

    • Pink (Yarn Colour A)

    • Green (Yarn Colour B)

  • Crochet Hook: 4mm crochet hook. If you decide to use a different yarn, use a hook size smaller than the size recommended on the yarn label. This will ensure your stuffing won’t appear through your stitches.

  • Other materials:

    • Stuffing

    • Scissors

    • Tapestry Needle

    • Stitch Marker

Before you get started

This pattern has been written in US terms.

The dragon fruit base is worked in continuous rounds, however the peels are crocheted in rows.

Checking your gauge is not required in this pattern. To ensure your stuffing doesn’t show through the stitches, use a hook that is smaller than the recommended size for your yarn weight.

Use a stitch marker throughout to keep track of your stitches.

I recommend using invisible decreases throughout, however this is not mandatory.

Dragon Fruit Peel

The dragon fruit peel is crocheted directly to the FLO sts of the dragon fruit base. There are five peels in total that go around the circumference of the dragon fruit, starting from the smallest end of the base and working our way down to the largest section of the base.

Each peel consists of three or four 'spiky peels' (these look like leaves). Each spiky peel is a separate section that is crocheted back and forth in rows. The final row of each peel is a continuous round that goes along the edges of each spiky peel and the FLO sts on the base in between.
