10 crochet journals to boost your motivation

This is a tip I would recommend to everyone who crochets, but even more so if you're just learning: Use a crochet diary.

10 Crochet Diaries to boost your motivation.jpg

I've kept a crochet diary since January 2020, when the crochet bug really hit me. When I first started crocheting, about a year and a half before that, I was a casual crochet learner. I struggled to motivate myself. This was partly to do with getting the stitches right, choosing the wrong projects to start with (they took too long to finish!), but I was also not keeping track of any of the progress I made. This is how keeping a crochet diary can really help boost your motivation!

What to track in a crochet diary?

I've always just kept a blank notebook, which has worked a charm for me. However there are some seriously amazing crochet journals and diaries out there that do the work for you. Keep scrolling to find some of the great ones I’ve found.

If you do however want to just stick to a black notebook. Here is a list of the items that I keep track of in mine to give you a head start:

  • Project Title

  • Pattern (and where I got it from)

  • Yarn (including brand, weight, colour codes, and the amount I've used after I've finished the project)

  • Hook size

  • Other materials needed

  • Who I'm making it for (if applicable)

  • I leave a big gap to write all of the row numbers down for the pattern and tick each row off once it's complete

  • What I've learned and resources that have helped me

  • How I could improve the project if I made it again

  • How much I enjoyed the pattern

Lastly, if you're really wanting to turn your crochet hobby into a hustle, you should keep track of the time it took you to make the item, the costs of the products you used to make it, and the amount of money you received from your customer for the make (giving you your profit). There is also a brilliant crochet profit calculator tool created by Nicole Chase that you can download here to help you work out your profits on your makes.
