Crochet Quiz: August 2022

The latest crochet quiz is here! Answer 10 multiple choice questions to test your knowledge about our favourite craft.

The Crochet Quiz is just a little bit of fun for existing crocheters to test our their knowledge about our craft, no matter their skill level.

The Crochet Quiz is held live in my Instagram stories each month. Historically this was on the last Friday of the month. However, this month it was on the first Saturday of the month (thus, why you’ll see July’s quiz missing from my blog).

After the quiz runs live on Instagram, I upload it to my blog for anyone and everyone who likes (or is interested in) crochet.

There are two ways you can play along if you’ve joined via my blog. Either click the button below which will take you to a Google form. The Google form is completely anonymous but will mark your answers as you go along.

Alternatively, you can keep scrolling on this page and write down your answers as go. There is a warning image before you reach the answers however, so no cheating! haha. You can then mark your own answers manually.

No matter which way you decide to play the crochet quiz, I hope you enjoy it! Please don’t forget to leave me a comment below to let me know how you got on or to share any feedback you have with me. Have fun!

Crochet Quiz Answers

Q1. If someone says they are “frogging” their crochet project, they mean that they are… [complete the sentence]...

(B) Undoing stitches

In crochet, to “frog” or “frogging”, simply means a crocheter has to undo their work. It comes from the idea of ‘ripping your stitches’ e.g. ‘rip-it’ - a similar sound to the noise a frog makes.

Q2. What is this crochet pattern book by Claire Gelder called?

(D) Mabel Bunny & Co

If you got this right, huge well done! I haven’t seen many crocheters with this pattern book before and I haven’t yet used it myself. Have you? If so, I’d love to know what you think of it! You can find the pattern book here.

Q3. What does C2C mean?

(D) Corner to Corner

C2C means corner to corner. This crochet technique means you start in the corner of your project and increase until you reach your desired width, then decrease to create the ending corner. Essentially, you start and finish in a corner when you’re crocheting C2C. Make & Do Crew has a fantastic blog post on C2C here if you’d like to learn more about this technique.

Q4. What yarn brand is this?

(A) Lion Brand Yarns

Did the Lion give it away? This logo does indeed belong to Lion Brand Yarns. If you’d like to explore their yarn range, you can take a browse on LoveCrafts here.

Q5. Which crochet designer won the 2022 Amigurumi.com Design Contest?

(B) Janine Holmes (Moji-Moji Design)

This was a tricky one, especially since there were so many entries from so many amazing amigurumi designers around the world. However, it was Janine Homes from Moji-Moji Design who won this year’s (the 2022) Amigurumi.com design contest with her entry, Mountain Gorilla. You can explore all the entries here.

Q6. What type of crochet hook is this?

(D) Tunisian

This is a Tunisian crochet hook. How can you tell if it’s a Tunisian crochet hook? Well, Tunisian crochet hooks are typically longer than regular crochet hooks. However, more noticeably Tunisian crochet hooks don’t have a grip and the longest section of the hook is all the same size. This is so the Tunisian crochet hook can hold your stitches.

Q7. True or False? To crochet an X-shaped single crochet stitch you must Yarn Over.

(B) False

Crocheters ‘Yarn Over’ when crocheting standard V-shaped stitches. To crochet the X-shaped single crochet stitch however you need to ‘Yarn Under’ instead. You can learn more about the X-shaped single crochet stitch in my latest tutorial blog post here.

Q8. What stitch does the symbol below represent in crochet charts?

(A) Popcorn Stitch

This was a difficult one! This symbol in crochet charts represents the Popcorn Stitch. If you’d like to learn more about the Popcorn Stitch, I highly recommend this article about it here.

Q9. Does the picture below show ‘Yarn Under’ or ‘Yarn Over’?

(A) Yarn Under

Huge well done if you answered ‘Yarn Under’ - that is correct! You’ll notice in the photo that the yarn runs under the head of the crochet hook. If it was ‘Yarn Over’ the yarn would wrap around the shaft of the crochet hook and sit under the head of the hook. If you’d like to see the difference between the two, my blog post here will help.

Q10. Who designed Gerda the Goose shown below?

(A) Veronica (Garnknuten)

I recently pattern tested this adorable amigurumi for Veronica at Garnknuten. Gerda the Goose was also released as part of a free Crochet-along between 8 crochet designers on Instagram. If you’re not already, I highly recommend following Veronica on Facebook or on Instagram here to stay up-to-date with any new free crochet patterns.

That is it for the latest crochet quiz. I hope you enjoyed it, and I would as always love to know how you got on. Please don’t forget to comment below. And if you have any feedback at all, I’d love to hear it.

Until next time, happy crocheting,

Cilla x
