Crochet Rapunzel
This crochet Rapunzel doll is a project I pattern tested for the very talented crochet designer, Ellie Richards at @foxy.crochet.
Isn't Rapunzel just adorable?
For the first time ever I broke my rules of pattern testing: Don't take a pattern testing project on that you cannot complete by the deadline. Of course, I didn't do this intentionally, but recently I've taken on more projects than I could handle. When I saw Ellie post about the opportunity to pattern test this adorable crocheted Rapunzel doll, I couldn't resist. I of course thought I would have Rapunzel finished by the deadline when I volunteered, however I made a mistake towards the beginning of the pattern that meant having to undo A LOT of stitches and starting again almost from scratch. I also only realised I'd made the mistake two days before the deadline, and I am not a fast crocheter, so this set me back a mile.
Thankfully, since I was speaking with the designer Ellie regularly, I told her what happened and she completely understood and was happy for me to just provide written feedback on the pattern copy in the first instance (copy-editing is something I love and also do in my day job). However, I obviously don't recommend doing this. But if you ever do find yourself caught out with not being able to meet a deadline for a pattern test project, just be sure to communicate openly and honestly with the designer. Definitely rule number one!
Now, into the fun part, all about this adorable Rapunzel.
The pattern can be purchased from Ellie's Ravelry store here. It's a really well written pattern that was tested by myself (eventually) and four other very talented crocheters who did get their projects completed on time. This is an intermediate pattern, so if you're brand new to crocheting, this is a pattern I'd recommend working towards. I also learned a lot of new techniques which were fantastic, from doubling up crochet yarn, to doing an X single crochet stitch, crocheting eyes, and how the hair was crocheted. I won't give any secrets away about the hair, but it is such a brilliantly written pattern and idea! Just check out how Ellie's Rapunzel looks below.
