Hug me bear lovey

A lovey for all those bear hugs.

I had the absolute delight of testing this adorable bear lovey pattern for my friend, Nicole Chase.

P.S. the amazing pattern is free!

Just before I get into the details for crocheters though, I’d like to introduce you to Gus Jr. I named him after another little grey teddy I already have living in my home called Gus.

Introducing Gus Jr.

Gus Junior is very calm, quiet, and absolutely loves a nana nap. If he could sleep and eat all day, he would, but his wee brother Gus also demands a lot of cuddles from him too. Thankfully, Gus Jr also enjoys a good ol’ cuddle.

Other than sleeping, Gus Jr also loves playing board games. His favourite is one called Lost Cities. He rarely wins, but he is okay with that. He just enjoys spending time with his family.

Details for crocheters

Here is the section for my fellow crochet readers. This is everything you need to know to create this cute lovey for yourselves.

What you need:

  • Pattern: FREE from The Nicole chase - click here.

  • Yarn: I used Lamault yarn by CaMaRose, however I would recommend using a worsted weight yarn like the pattern suggests. I feel the type of yarn I used, although looks great, is better suited to garments rather than amigurumi.

  • Hook: I used a 4mm crochet hook like this one here.

  • Tapestry needle: I have this pack here

  • Embroidery thread in black (like this here) used to embroider the nose.

  • Safety eyes: I have a pack like this one here. Alternatively, you could also embroider the eyes with black thread, if you didn’t want to use safety eyes.

  • Stuffing: I use this here.

Tips and tricks

Yarn

I find sometimes to really love something you make, it has a lot to do with selecting the right yarn for your project. While I absolutely love how my Hug Me Bear Lovey turned out, if I were to make him again I would opt for a cotton worsted weight yarn. However, I do think this is just a matter of preference.

Pattern

The Hug Me Bear Lovey pattern is honestly great. It’s so easy to follow, really quick to work up - it took me about four days in the evenings and I am not a fast crocheter - and the result is adorable.

This pattern is free and you can get it here from Nicole Chase’s website.

As an extra tip, when it comes to weaving in your ends for the granny square blanket, here is a fantastic video resource by Hooked by Robin using the same technique I use, and I find it so simple to follow. Plus, it means your ends are definitely secure. I hope it helps!

Final thoughts

I love a lovey, and this one is just too cute.

While being adorable, this pattern is also free, easy to follow, and quick to make up. I do recommend it!

I hope this helps my fellow crocheters out there looking for a great lovey pattern. Of course, if you’re not a crocheter and you want one of these lovey’s made for you, feel free to contact me here or Nicole Chase (the pattern designer herself) here.

Enjoy what’s left of your weekend, and I will speak to you all soon,
