Free Eggy Farm Friend Crochet Pattern: Peter the Piglet
This free Easter crochet pattern makes a small egg-shaped piglet amigurumi.
Peter the Piglet’s crochet pattern is easy, super quick to make, and minimal sewing is required as the feet and ears are crocheted to the body as you go.
This piglet amigurumi pattern is the first one I designed as part of the Eggy Farm Friends series. This series of free crochet patterns are farm animal amigurumi designed in the shape of an egg - ideal for Easter gifts!

Piglet Crochet Pattern Information
Materials you need
Here’s what you’ll need to crochet Peter the Piglet:
Yarn: DK chenille yarn in two colours. I used Sirdar Happy Chenille in the following colours. Amounts are in brackets.
A - Dark Pink (8 grams = 20.3 m / 22.3 yds)
B - Light Pink (6 grams = 15.2 m / 16.6 yds)
Crochet Hook: size 2.5 mm (Use US B or C if 2.5mm is unavailable). If you decide to use a different yarn, use a hook size smaller than the size recommended on the yarn label. This will ensure your stuffing doesn’t appear through your stitches.
Other materials:

Safety eyes 6 mm
Black embroidery thread (optional)
Pins (optional)
Before you get started
This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
Checking your gauge is not required. To ensure your stuffing doesn’t show through the stitches, use a hook that is smaller than the recommended size for your yarn weight.
Use a stitch marker throughout to keep track of your stitches.
All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
Some body parts are attached to the body while you crochet. As a result, I recommend crocheting the feet and ears before you crochet the body. The no-sew technique is also explained clearly throughout the pattern.

Peter the Piglet crochet pattern abbreviations
Here are the abbreviations used throughout Peter the Piglet’s crochet pattern:
R# - Row/round number
st - Stitch
ch - Chain
sl st - Slip stitch
mc - Magic circle
sc - Single crochet
inc - Increase
dec - Decrease
sk - Skip
[...] x ... - Repeat the sequence of stitches in brackets x-times
(...) - Total number of stitches at the end of each row/round
Piglet Amigurumi Pattern
As a reminder, crochet Peter the Piglet’s feet and ears first as they will be attached to the body while you crochet.
Feet (Make 2)
Using Colour B Yarn (Light Pink).
Do not stuff.
R1: mc with 5 sc (5)
R2: [inc] x 5 (10)
R3: sc around (10)
R4: hold sides together and join with 5 sc (5)
Cut yarn and fasten off.
Using needle, weave yarn tail into the foot to hide.
Repeat above steps to make a second foot.
Ears (Make 2)
Using Colour B Yarn (Light Pink).
Do not stuff.
R1: mc with 4 sc (4)
R2: [inc, sc] x 2 (6)
R3: [inc, 2 sc] x 2 (8)
R4: [inc, 3 sc] x 2 (10)
R5: [inc, 4 sc] x 2 (12)
R6: [inc, 5 sc] x 2 (14)
R7: [inc, 6 sc] x 2 (16)
R8: hold sides together and join with 8 sc (8)
R9: ch 1, pinch ends of ear together so the last row folds in half and join with 4 sc (4) - image below
Cut yarn and fasten off.
Using needle, weave yarn tail into ear to hide.
Repeat steps above to make second ear.
Piglet nose
Using Yarn B (Light Pink).
Do not stuff.
Start: Ch 7
In the next round, you'll crochet around both sides of the ch.
R1: Start in 2nd ch from hook and sc in the next 2 sts, inc in next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 3 sc in last st of ch and continue to crochet on other side of ch, 1 sc in next st, dec, 1 sc in next st, inc, sl st to first st in round (15) - sl st is not included in total st count
R2: ch, sc in same st, 2 sc, inc, 4 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, sl st to first st in round (18) - ch and sl st is not included in total st count
Cut yarn leaving a longer yarn tail for sewing (approximately 40 cm/ 16 "). Fasten off using an invisible finish.
Sew in your starting yarn tail. See image below.
Cut approximately 15 cm / 6 " of Colour A Yarn (Dark Pink). Using a needle, sew two parallel lines on the nose to make the nostrils. Nostrils should sit over 2 rounds and be approximately 3 sts apart from each other. See image below.
Body
Using Yarn A (Dark Pink).
Stuff firmly throughout.
R1: mc with 8 sc (8)
R2: [inc] x 8 (16)
R3: [sc, inc] x 8 (24)
In the next round, you will attach the feet to the body while you crochet. To do this, line up the foot to the body when instructed to do so. *Insert your hook into the first st of the foot, then into the st of the body (see image below). Complete sc as per normal. Repeat from * until all sts of the foot are crocheted to consecutive sts of the body (see image below).

Feet attached to body after completing round 4.
R4: 1 sc, crochet foot to body with 5 sc, 1 sc, crochet other foot to body with 5 sc, 12 sc (24)
R5: [2 sc, inc] x 8 (32)
In the next round, you will also crochet the tail.
R6: 25 sc around the body, to create the tail - ch 10, in second ch from hook [sc, dec] x 3 along the ch back towards the base of the body. sc in next st of body, continue with 6 sc on the body to finish the round (32) - see image below. Tail is not counted in st count.
R7 - R12: sc around (32) - 6 rounds
R13: [2 sc, dec] x 8 (24)
R14: sc around (24)
If using safety eyes, insert them now between R11 & R12 of the head above the feet. There should be 5 sts between the eyes.
R15: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18)
In R16, the ears are crocheted to the body using the same technique we used to attach the feet. The ears should sit on either side of the body with the feet in the middle. Ensure the open part of the ear is facing the front of the body (where the feet are).
See under R16 for the detailed st count I used. However, please note that placement of the ears is more important and this may need to be changed depending on your tension/positioning.
R16: sc around joining both ears to either side of the body as you crochet (18) - see image below
Detailed st count for R16 (optional): Join ear to body with 4 sc, 5 sc, join ear to body with 4 sc, 5 sc (18)
R17: [sc, dec] x 6 (12)
R18: sc around (12)
Finish stuffing.
R19: [dec] x 6 (6)
Cut yarn leaving a short tail for sewing. Using a needle, weave through FLO of final 6 sc. Pull tight to close. Weave yarn tail into body to hide.

Final assembly instructions
Follow these steps to complete your Peter the Piglet amigurumi.
Step 1: Sew nose to body
Using longer yarn tail from nose, sew the nose to the body. The nose sits in the centre of the face over R6 to R10 of the body. It should sit just below the eyes. See image 15.
Step 2: Embroider eyebrows (optional)
Using black embroidery thread and a needle, embroider two eyebrows onto the body. The eyebrows are embroidered above each eye over R14 of the body. See image 16.
