    • B - Gold (1 grams = 5 m/ 5.5 yds)

  • Crochet hook size 2.5 mm / C in US

Gauge

Gauge is not required for this pattern, however for reference my gauge was:

7 sc stitches on 2.5 cm / 1 "

7 rows on 2.5 cm / 1 "

Crochet Pattern Abbreviations

This crochet pattern is written in US terms.

R# - Row/round number

st - Stitch

mc - Magic circle

ch - Chain

sl st - Slip stitch

sc - Single crochet

[...] x ... - Repeat the sequence of stitches in brackets x-times

(...) - Total number of stitches at the end of each row/round

Top Tips & Additional Information

  • Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.

  • Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.

  • Working in rounds and rows: The star is worked up by using a combination of continuous rounds, and by crocheting back and forth in rows. Both techniques are mentioned in the pattern before they are used.

  • Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round/row to keep track of the number of stitches.

  • Construction: This decoration is made by crocheting two flat pieces. These two pieces are then joined together by crocheting around the sides. The decoration is stuffed as you join the pieces together. This is all explained as you move throughout the pattern.

  • Copyright: You may not copy, reproduce or sell this pattern. However, I’m more than happy for you to sell the makes you’ve created using this pattern on a small scale. For more information, please read the full copyright notice at the bottom of this page.

Let’s Start Crocheting the Star Ornament

Star (Make 2)

Using Colour A Yarn (Blue).

The first section of this pattern is worked in continuous rounds.

R1: mc with 10 sc (10)

R2: [sc, inc] x 5 (15)

R3: [2 sc, inc] x 5 (20)

R4: [3 sc, inc] x 5 (25)

R5: [4 sc, inc] x 5 (30)

R6: [5 sc, inc] x 5 (35)

Now we'll start to crochet the first point of the star. This piece is worked by crocheting back and forth in rows.

Please note: Turning chs are not counted in the total stitch count.

The next row is worked in the opposite direction, as such we need to get into position first.

Preparing for next row: ch 1, turn

R7: 7 sc, ch 1, turn (7)

R8: dec, 5 sc, ch 1, turn (6)

R9: 6 sc, ch 1, turn (6)

R10: 4 sc, dec, ch 1, turn (5)

R11: 5 sc, ch 1, turn (5)

R12: dec, 3 sc, ch 1, turn (4)

R13: 4 sc, ch 1, turn (4)

R14: 2 sc, dec, ch 1, turn (3)

R15: 3 sc, ch 1, turn (3)

R16: dec, sc, ch 1, turn (2)

R17: 2 sc, ch 1, turn (2)

R18: dec (1)

Cut yarn and fasten off.

*Get ready to crochet the next Star point by turning your work so the wrong side is facing you. Now insert your hook into the st directly next to the first star point as shown in the image below.

Repeat R7 - R18 to crochet next Star point. Cut yarn and fasten off.**

Repeat from * to ** another 3 times until you have a total number of 5 Star points.

Sew in all yarn tails to the wrong side of each Star.

Star Ornament Assembly

Hold the two Stars together so the sides of both pieces are aligned and the Right Side of each Star is facing outwards.

Now we're going to crochet around the sides of both Stars to join them together. St count doesn't matter here, however st counts can be found in the diagram in the image below if needed.

Insert crochet hook into the top left corner stitch of both Stars (see image below) and attach Colour B Yarn (Gold). We will now be crocheting along the sides of both pieces to join them together.

sc around sides of Stars to join them together. 3 sc in each Star tip corner st (see diagram). Stuff Star when you've reached half way, and continue to stuff as you crochet.

*When you reach the st just before the final Star point (see end point of assembly diagram), 1 sc in Star point st, ch 20, sc in same st in Star point, sl st to 1st sc where you started with Colour C Yarn (Gold).

Please note: The loop of the hanging decoration can be made longer or shorter by adding or removing ch sts. Check you are happy with the length of the loop before cutting your yarn.

Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 10cm/4" for sewing.

Sew yarn tail through bottom sts (first & last) of loop to secure.

Weave any remaining yarn tails into the Star to hide.

Congratulations, you’ve finished!

I hope you’ve enjoyed crocheting your very own Star Ornament!
