Top tips and additional crochet pattern information
- Pattern Level: Easy
- Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn colours, weight, and material based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and the size of your final make.
- Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing from appearing through your stitches.
- Eyes: Please note that safety eyes are a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age. As an alternative, consider embroidering the eyes instead.
- Working in rounds: All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
- Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round/row to keep track of the number of stitches.
- Stuffing: Unless otherwise stated, stuff all amigurumi parts firmly as you crochet.
- Changing colour: To ensure straight lines, add the new colour in the last yarn over of the stitch before the new colour is needed.
- Copyright: You are more than welcome to sell your crocheted creation using this pattern on a small scale. However, the pattern itself cannot be reproduced, sold, or redistributed in any way without the designers’ consent. Pablo the Paintbrush Crochet Pattern
Now it’s time to start crocheting your very own Pablo using this free paintbrush crochet pattern.
Paintbrush
Using Colour A (Light Yellow), Colour B (Silver Grey), Colour C (Natural), and Colour D (Candy Pink) Yarn.
The paintbrush is crocheted all in one piece. We start crocheting from the bottom of the paintbrush handle and work upwards ending at the tip of the brush.
Start with Colour A.
R1: mc with 6 sc (6)
R2: [sc, inc] x 3 (9)
R3: [2 sc, inc] x 3 (12)
R4: [3 sc, inc] x 3 (15)
R5: [4 sc, inc] x 3 (18)
R6: [5 sc, inc] x 3 (21)
R7: [6 sc, inc] x 3 (24)
Start stuffing and continue to stuff throughout.
R8 – R41: sc around (24) – 34 rounds
If using safety eyes, insert them now between R38 and R39 with approximately 3 sts in between the eyes. See image 1 below.

Change to Colour B.
R42: [6 sc, dec] x 3 (21)
R43: [5 sc, dec] x 3 (18)
R44: [4 sc, dec] x 3 (15)
R45: [3 sc, dec] x 3 (12)
Change to Colour C.
R46: sc around (12)
R47: [3 sc, inc] x 3 (15)
R48: sc around (15)
R49: [4 sc, inc] x 3 (18)
R50: sc around (18)
R51: [5 sc, inc] x 3 (21)
R52: sc around (21)
In the next two rounds, we’ll create a little speck of paint on the brush by adding a colour change mid-round. This is to make the paintbrush look a little more realistic.
R53: [6 sc, inc] x 2, 4 sc, ccD 1 sc, ccC 1 sc, inc (24)
In the next round your Colour D single crochet should be directly above the Colour D st in R53.
R54: 20 sc, ccD 1 sc, ccC 3 sc (24) – see image 2 below

R55: [6 sc, dec] x 3 (21)
R56: [5 sc, dec] x 3 (18)
Change to Colour D.
R57: [4 sc, dec] x 3 (15)
R58: [3 sc, dec] x 3 (12)
R59: sc around (12)
Finish stuffing.
R60: [2 sc, dec] x 3 (9)
R61: [sc, dec] x 3 (6)
Cut yarn leaving a short tail for sewing. Using a needle, weave through FLO of final 6 sc. Pull yarn tail tight to close.
Weave yarn tail into the brush to hide, but be careful not to pull too tightly so the point of the brush tip remainds.
See completed paintbrush in image 3 below.

Paintbrush Assembly
All that’s left to do is a little embroidery and we’re done!
Step one: Add white detail to eyes
Using a tapestry needle and the white scrap yarn, add a little white to the sides of the eyes to make them pop. See image 4 below.
Step two: Embroider a mouth
Using black embroidery thread and a tapestry needle, embroider a mouth over R35 and R36 under the eyes. See image 4 below.
