Free Apple Crochet Pattern
The Appetising Apple
This free apple crochet pattern is a quick and easy make, which is a huge reason why I decided to design it. I wanted a smaller sized project to work on that would be quick to crochet but also fun to make. It ticked these boxes for me, and I hope it does for you too!
It’s also a great accompaniment to the Succulent Strawberries & Beaming Banana crochet patterns I released back in 2020. These were two of the first patterns I ever released and have honestly been my most popular crochet patterns to date.
While you do need a little bit of crocheting experience to make the Appetising Apple, you don’t need to be an expert. Beginner crocheters should also be able to pick this pattern up and get started right away as long as they know the basic crochet stitches. There is also a little bit of shaping to do, but this is all explained step-by-step.

Appetising Apple Crochet Pattern Information
Materials Needed
Here’s what you’ll need to crochet the Appetising Apple:
Aran/Worsted Weight yarn. I used Rico Designs Creative Cotton Aran in the following colours:
Red (26 grams = 44.2 m / 48.3 yds)
Brown (2 grams = 3.4 m / 3.7 yds)
Green (2 grams = 3.4 m / 3.7 yds)
Crochet hook size 3.5 mm (E)
Stuffing
Needle
Scissors
Pins
Stitch marker
Crochet Apple Size
With the yarn and hook mentioned above, my crocheted apple turned out to be 11 cm / 4.3 " high and 9 cm / 3.5 " wide. I do tend to crochet quite tightly, so your Apple may turn out slightly larger.
Gauge
Gauge is not required for this pattern, however for reference my gauge was as follows:
11 sc stitches on 5 cm / 1.96 "
11 rows on 5 cm / 1.96 "
Crochet Pattern Abbreviations
This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
R# - Row/round number
st - Stitch
ch - Chain
sl st - Slip stitch
mc - Magic circle
sc - Single crochet
inc - Increase
dec - Decrease
hdc - Half double crochet
dc - Double crochet
[...] x ... - Repeat the sequence of stitches in brackets x-times
(...) - Total number of stitches at the end of each row/round
Crochet Top Tips & Additional Pattern Information
Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
Working in rounds: All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to keep track of the number of stitches in each round.
Stuffing: Unless otherwise stated, stuff all amigurumi parts firmly as you crochet.
Decreases: I recommend using invisible decreases throughout.
Shaping: A sewing technique is used to shape the apple so it stays in place. Instructions are included within the Apple Base part of the pattern.

Appetising Apple Crochet Pattern
Apple Base
The apple base is worked from the top to the bottom.
Using Yarn Colour A (Red).
R1: mc with 6 sc (6)
R2: [inc] x 6 (12)
R3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)
R4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24)
R5: sc around (24)
R6: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30)
R7: [4 sc, inc] x 6 (36)
R8: [5 sc, inc] x 6 (42)
R9: [6 sc, inc] x 6 (48)
R10: [7 sc, inc] x 6 (54)
R11 - 17: sc around (54) - 7 rounds
R18: [7 sc, dec] x 6 (48)
R19 - 21: sc around (48) - 3 rounds
R22: [6 sc, dec] x 6 (42)
R23: sc around (42)
R24: [5 sc, dec] x 6 (36)
R25: [4 sc, dec] x 6 (30)

Push your starting rows down so they curve inwards as shown in the image below. Stuff as firmly as you can, but don't worry if it puffs out at a little as we will be sewing the shape into place.
R27: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18)
R28: [sc, dec] x 6 (12)
Finish stuffing.
R29: [dec] x 6 (6)
Cut yarn leaving a yarn tail of approximately 60 cm & fasten off.
Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn tail through FLO of the final 6 sts and pull tight to close the gap.
Now we're going to shape the apple so the top always stays inwards and can't pop back out.
*Insert needle and yarn tail into a st between R28 & R29 at the bottom of the apple.
Squeeze the bottom and top of the apple together and pull your needle and yarn tail up through any st between R2 & R3 of the apple.
Insert needle back into the apple between R1 & R2. Bring your needle out through any st between R28 & R29.
Pull yarn tail tight so the top of the apple curves inwards.**
Repeat from * to ** going through sts on the opposite sides to the sts you just made.
Please note: This technique will also make the bottom of your apple pucker slightly, but that makes it even more realistic. I hope you like it!
With your yarn tail back through the bottom of the apple, double knot the yarn tail. Then thread the yarn tail onto your needle again and weave it into a nearby st. Pull through any other st on the outside of the apple.
Pull yarn tail tight and use scissors to cut the yarn tail close to the apple so it is hidden.
Apple Stem
Using Brown Yarn.
Do not stuff.
R1: mc with 6 sc (6)
R2: [sc, inc] x 3 (9)
R3 - 4: sc around (9) - 2 rounds
R5: [sc, dec] x 3 (6)
R6 - 10: sc around (6) - 5 rounds
Cut yarn leaving a longer tail for sewing and fasten off.
Apple Leaf
Using Green Yarn.
Do not stuff.
Start: ch 11
In the next rows, we'll crochet around both sides of the ch.
Please note: There is only 1 st in each st/ch unless otherwise stated.
R1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook 2 sc, 1 hdc, 3 dc, 3 hdc, 1 sc (10)
R2: Crochet along the other side of ch with 1 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, sl st into 1st st of R1 (10) - sl st is not counted in total st count.
R3: Sl st in next st, sc, hdc, dc, 2 dc in next st, 2 hdc, sc, sl st (10) - all sts are counted in total st count
Cut yarn leaving a longer yarn tail for sewing and fasten off. Weave starting yarn tail into the back of the leaf to hide.
Appetising Apple Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Sew stem to apple base
Using yarn tail from the stem, sew stem between R1 & R2 of the Apple Base.
Step 2: Sew leaf to apple stem
Using yarn tail from Leaf, sew the leaf to between R6 & R7 of the stem. The top side of the leaf is the side with 2 rows of sts.
