Free Saw Crochet Pattern
Get the free amigurumi saw crochet pattern.
This free saw crochet pattern is ideal for crocheters who have any young budding builders in the family.
I originally made this design as a commission for a friend of a friend, a woodworker who was due her first baby. Now while this amigurumi saw doesn’t have a face, I still had to give it a name… Introducing, Sammy the Saw!
Sammy the Saw’s crochet pattern is best suited to intermediate crocheters and uses some unusual techniques I hope you’ll enjoy. It’s also a minimal sewing amigurumi pattern - the best, am I right?!
Please note, due to the differentiation between the amigurumi saw blade and the handle, this is one jiggly saw! I may make an update to this part of the pattern once I get a chance to remake it, but I do hope you still enjoy it! Nonetheless, I’ve had some great feedback already from crocheters who have used this pattern to gift to their kids!

Sammy the Saw Crochet Pattern Information
Materials needed
Here’s the list of what you’ll need to crochet Sammy the Saw:
Yarn: DK/Light Worsted weight yarn in the following colours:
Colour A: Silver 60yd / 55m
Colour B: Gold - 15yd / 14m
Colour C: Navy - 20yd / 18.5m
Crochet hook: 3.5mm crochet hook. You may use a larger or smaller crochet hook if you like, however I recommend using a hook that is smaller than the recommended size for your yarn weight to ensure the stuffing doesn’t show through your stitches.

This pattern has been written in US Terms in English only.
Stitch Explanations
Increase (Inc): Work 2 sc into the same stitch.
Decrease (Dec): Work 1 sc to merge 2 sc together. I recommend using the invisible decrease method.
Skip (Sk): Skip 1 sc and crochet into the next.
Weave: Sew up through one sc then sew down into the next sc. Continue as stated.
Additional Crochet Pattern Notes
Gauge is not required, however keep stitch tension consistent throughout.
Parts of this pattern are worked in rows, and some parts are worked in rounds. These differences are stated throughout.
Use a stitch marker to keep count of your stitches.
The row or round total stitch count is shown in brackets (#) at the end of each row/round.
Sammy the Saw Crochet Pattern
Saw Blade (Make 2)
Please note: for your second saw blade, do NOT cut yarn and fasten off at the end.
Start with Colour A (Silver).
Crocheting in rows.
Turning chains do not count as stitches.
R1: Ch 5 (5)
R2: In 2nd ch from hook, 4 sc (4) Ch 1, turn.
R3: 3 sc, inc (5) Ch 1, turn.
R4: 5 sc (5) Ch 1, turn.
The next row ends with ch 2 instead of ch 1. This technique will create the saw teeth. These chains do not count as stitches. You'll find them in only some of the following rows (R5, R13, R21, R29, R37 & R45).
R5: 4 sc, inc (6) Ch 2, turn.
R6: sk 1 sc, 5 sc (5) Ch 1, turn.
R7: 5 sc (5) Ch 1, turn.
R8: 5 sc (5) Ch 1, turn.

Saw Blade 1: Cut yarn, fasten off.
Saw Blade 2: Do NOT cut yarn and do NOT fasten off.
Saw Blade Assembly
Pin together your two saw blades so they match up evenly side-by-side.
Use the yarn still attached to saw blade 2 (Colour A - Silver).
Step 1: sc across the long straight blade side joining the two pieces together. Don’t worry about stitch count here, just ensure your two saw blades pieces line up. For reference I used 52 sc.
Step 2: Ch 1, sc across the smallest straight edge (5) - Stitch count includes ch in this line
Step 3: Ch 1, sc across the jagged edge only, very lightly stuffing between the two saw blade pieces as you go. Don’t worry about counting here, just ensure your two pieces are aligned.
Step 4: Ch 1, turn, sc across all 3 sides you just crocheted into. Don’t worry about counting here, however each sc and ch created in Steps 1 to 3 should all have 1 sc.
Step 5: Cut yarn, fasten off.
Now you should have three closed sides on your saw blade, and one open end. We will be using the open end to crochet the handle.
Optional: I prefer to leave any sewing until the end, however you can weave in all of your yarn ends now if you like.
Saw Handle
Start with Yarn Colour B (Gold).
Join yarn to last sc on the saw blade’s longest straight edge (the sc where you fastened off). Now we will crochet the top part of the blade together.
R1: Join both sides of the open saw blade together and sc across (14)
Crocheting in rounds now, not rows. Your chains in R2 count as stitches.
R2: Ch 1, turn. (FLO inc, FLO sc) x 7. Ch 1, turn. Now you’ll work into the unworked stitches on the other side of R1. (FLO inc, FLO sc) x 7. Sl St to join to starting ch. (44) - chains count as stitches in this row, but your sl st does not count as a stitch.
R3: Ch 1, sc into same ch space, sc around (44) - Your ch does not count as a st in this round.
R4: (inc, 3 sc) x 11 (55)
R5 - 6: sc around (55)
R7: (dec, 3 sc) x 11 (44)
Stuff the open handle and use two stitch markers to split the handle into three sections. There should be 12 scs on each side with 20 sc in the middle (10 sc at the front, and 10 sc at the back). Your two stitch markers should be in the first and last sc of the middle section.
R8: sc to first splitting stitch marker (shown as red in image) then work across the other side to form the handle side, sc back to beginning (12)
R9 - 16: sc around (12)
Cut yarn, fasten off. Stuff this section.
Attach Yarn Colour B (Gold) to any sc on the other side of the saw handle. Shown in image above as anywhere to the right of the blue stitch marker.
Now is a good time to sew the middle section of the handle together. Stuff more if needed, then using yarn Colour B (Gold) sew the inside of the saw handle together.
Pick your crochet hook back up in the Colour C (Navy) stitch you left open at the top of R13, continue to crochet as follows.
R17: Ch 10. Sc to join to middle sc on opposite side of handle. See photos below.
R18: 11 sc around side of handle. 10 sc across one side of chain in the middle. 12 sc around other side of handle. 10 sc across other side of chain in the middle. Finish with 1 sc to join to the other side of the handle. (44)

Stuff top of handle as much as you can now.

Cut yarn, fasten off.
Weave yarn tail through FLO of 8 sc. Pull tight to close. Sew all yarn tails in to hide.
